WordPress plugins…

Which WordPress plugins are recommended for adding posts to Parler (which will be back) & Gab? I have axed the previous buttons for linking to Twitter & Facebook (basically fuck ’em).

    Perry,

I can’t answer your technical question, but good for you for axing the buttons for linking to Facebook and Twitter. Let’s hope Samizdata is among the first of many such sites to do this.

    Fuck Yes.

We all should do this. All of us.

GoFundMe will no longer allow people to fundraise for travel expenses used for potentially violent political events after pro-Trump protesters used the platform to rake in cash ahead of storming the US Capitol.

“Due to the violence, GoFundMe has removed numerous fundraisers intended to raise money for travel expenses,” a spokesperson for the company told CNN Business. The spokesperson said the company will also remove fundraisers for travel expenses for any future political events where there is a “risk of violence by the attendees.”

The company will “continue to remove fundraisers that attempt to spread misinformation about the election, promote conspiracy theories and contribute to or participate in attacks on US democracy,” the spokesperson said.

The online fundraising company joins a long list of corporations that are making statements in an attempt to take action against the violence. Payment company Stripe will no longer process Trump campaign donations, and Airbnb announced Monday that people who are associated with violent hate groups were removed from the platform. The home-sharing company also canceled reservations and removed accounts associated with hate group members, including the Proud Boys.

    https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/10/22223956/parler-ceo-john-matze-lawyers-vendors-abandoning

The CEO of the conservative-friendly social app Parler said that all of its vendors have abandoned the company following recent bans from Google, Apple, and Amazon.

“Every vendor, from text message services to email providers to our lawyers, all ditched us too, on the same day,” Parler CEO John Matze said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.

Google banned Parler on Friday, Apple removed Parler on Saturday, and Amazon has informed Parler it will be kicked from the company’s web hosting services Sunday evening.

    […]

But in Sunday’s interview, Matze said that it was having difficulties finding a new vendor to work with. “We’re going to try our best to get back online as quickly as possible, but we’re having a lot of trouble because every vendor we talk to says they won’t work with us. Because if Apple doesn’t approve and Google doesn’t approve, then they won’t.”

    https://justthenews.com/nation/technology/facebook-and-instagram-are-eliminating-all-posts-include-phrase-stop-steal

Facebook announced on Monday that it is purging both Instagram and Facebook, two major social media platforms, of all content that includes the phrase “stop the steal.”

“We are now removing content containing the phrase ‘stop the steal’ under our Coordinating Harm policy from Facebook and Instagram,” Facebook said. “We removed the original Stop the Steal group in November and have continued to remove Pages, groups and events that violate any of our policies, including calls for violence.”

I think you’re going to have to wait for some application of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The 3 companies pretty obviously conspired to restrict trade, even proudly so. The obvious question is whether such a prosecution could go forward in a ‘Democrat’ administration or if the accusation would or even could be made in civil court.

  • Mr Ed

    Perry,

I would think that the technical side would have to wait until the Parler site is re-established to see what the new website has by way of functionality, but that is a guess. I am surprised that they haven’t been able to even put up a landing page with a ‘throttled in restraint of trade‘ message on it saying ‘come back soon‘ by now.

    Cesare

Cornell has the Antitrust legislation on its resource website. Is it possible, is it not, for wronged individuals to sue in the United States courts for any violation of the Sherman Act? If so, that could make quite a class action.

    (a) Amount of recovery; prejudgment interest
Except as provided in subsection (b), any person who shall be injured in his business or property by reason of anything forbidden in the antitrust laws may sue therefor in any district court of the United States in the district in which the defendant resides or is found or has an agent, without respect to the amount in controversy, and shall recover threefold the damages by him sustained, and the cost of suit, including a reasonable attorney’s fee. The court may award under this section, pursuant to a motion by such person promptly made, simple interest on actual damages for the period beginning on the date of service of such person’s pleading setting forth a claim under the antitrust laws and ending on the date of judgment, or for any shorter period therein, if the court finds that the award of such interest for such period is just in the circumstances. In determining whether an award of interest under this section for any period is just in the circumstances, the court shall consider only—
    (1) whether such person or the opposing party, or either party’s representative, made motions or asserted claims or defenses so lacking in merit as to show that such party or representative acted intentionally for delay, or otherwise acted in bad faith;
    (2) whether, in the course of the action involved, such person or the opposing party, or either party’s representative, violated any applicable rule, statute, or court order providing for sanctions for dilatory behavior or otherwise providing for expeditious proceedings; and
    (3) whether such person or the opposing party, or either party’s representative, engaged in conduct primarily for the purpose of delaying the litigation or increasing the cost thereof.

Poland has just made it a crime for a company claiming to be a Neutral Public Platform (Samizdata is not a company and it is not a platform – it is the blog of Perry de Havilland and guests) to censor any Polish person in Poland who has not said something that violated Polish law.

The punishment is about two million Dollars per case of censorship (at least I think it is) – I am sure what the punishment is for banning someone totally.

The Polish government has made it very clear that this is aimed at Twitter, Google, Facebook and all the other big American companies – as well as local Polish Social Media PLATFORMS that may be tempted to go “Woke”.

“Paul how dare you support the action of a GOVERNMENT against PRIVATE COMPANIES” – governments can rightly act against private groups who engage in such conduct.

The Mafia being private does not make it any less criminal – and Google and co do vastly more harm than the Mafia.

Google pretends to be a neutral, objective search engine, and it pretends that its “Youtube” is also neutral – in reality Google and its “Youtube” arm push a Collectivist political and cultural agenda.

For example, it has systematically tried to push people AWAY from Early Treatment for Covid 19 – not allowing opposition to the endless lies of the establishment.

The number of deaths that Google is responsible for, makes the Mafia look like Boy Scouts.

  • Mr Ed

    Paul,

For example, it has systematically tried to push people AWAY from Early Treatment for Covid 19 – not allowing opposition to the endless lies of the establishment.

Now that could amount to a conspiracy to cause a public nuisance at common law, taking your case at its highest.

  • Flubber

The number of deaths that Google is responsible for, makes the Mafia look like Boy Scouts.

The number of deaths that Communism is responsible for, makes the Nazis look like Boy Scouts.

But they’re going to give it another go.

  • lucklucky

It is obvious that Google, Amazon, Apple, Twitter and others in neo-Marxist movement will never allow any other representative election in USA

  • Cesare

Mr Ed, sadly I can only suggest you consult Lt Gen Flynn as to the viability.

  • Perry, I did some reading on this subject, and it appears that Parler did not have a public API that would allow for a WordPress plugin to work. I found some Github repo that exposed an unofficial / private API that their iOS app used. The problem with that would be that private APIs typically don’t have long-running “contract” => can change anytime without a warning. So, there I would wait until they do have a public API. Afterwards, there will surely be some WordPress plugin for that.

Gab might have an API, I found a Python package that exposes it. I didn’t play with it, so I don’t know if it works. Gab is based more on Open Source than Parler was (is?), so the chances there are much better. Still, no WordPress plugin that I could find.

  • Many thanks for the info Tomas! Oh and long time since we met! Maybe see you in Prague later this year if the ongoing nightmare ever ends.

  • My pleasure, Perry! Yes, it would be great to meet up again.

Just for fun, and here because it’s sort of an infrastructure post, and it won’t bother anybody:

Who here can resist an article titled “Efforts to castrate hippos are not as easy as you would think”?

    https://bayourenaissanceman.blogspot.com/2021/01/efforts-to-castrate-hippos-are-not-as.html

  • Yes, hippos are very protective of their bollocks, I assure you
