We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

This is why every woman needs a decent-sized handbag The two kidnappers saw little threat when their victim’s sister-in-law approached their vehicle, fumbling with her handbag.
But what Ayisha Falaq finally produced from the bag was a pistol. Even worse for the kidnappers, the mother of two is a national-grade markswoman.
“I just took my gun and shot them,” says Falaq, 32, who lives in Delhi. “I shot one in his leg, the other in the waist.”
Nice to see a positive story about legal gun owners using their guns to defend innocent citizens against criminals in the Guardian.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

She is probably SERIOUSLY screwed!
Doesn’t she know that “gub’mint” has a strangle-hold monopoly on “protection”?
You know, like it were some sort of “racket”.
The “peasants” are required to die on cue, as per the script.
They certainly are in the old “mother country”.
She also needs retraining: TWO to the body, ONE to the head; repeat/reload as required.
Yes, nice one 😀 but… no, no, no. Two to the chest (and for extra added happiness, one to the head if you are looking to make a hardcore style statement)… the important thing is… aim for the centre of mass!
Responsible gun ownership – Because when every second counts, the police are only minutes away.
Life (and fashionable dress) would be so much simpler if men carried purses.
Steady, man! A pistol proudly exposed, as swords one were, is fashion statement enough. 😛
Proper dress for a highland Scot (after donning kilt, sporran, barathea, jabot and lace cuffs, etc.) is broadsword over the back, claymore at the belt and sgean dubh down the sock, plus two pistols worn proudly at the belt, just as PersonFromPorlock says. A targe and powder horn complete the ensemble, though the latter can be dropped if the pistols are new enough.
The natz, true to their vile nature, have no plans to make this get-up legal again.
Ah, but the true benefit to society of concealed carry is the concealment.
Not everyone wants to carry a weapon. But the most effective disincentive to crime comes when you don’t know who is armed.
I imagine the lady used a .32 Webley, which is still made in India, and due to import controls is the most common pistol to be found in that country.
Armed self-defence is not a forbidden concept in India as it is in Britain, so provided she has her no doubt voluminous Indian paperwork in order, the lady should have no legal problems. I certainly hope not.
Notice that there are no comments allowed on this article in the Guardian. They would not want the natives (in the UK) to get the wrong idea.
Also, it is interesting that the Guardian celebrates the arming of Muslims (yes, I know that she is in India), but makes no comment about arming the citizens of the UK.
If it had been a man armed with the gun, the Grauniad wouldn’t have reported it at all.
If he had pulled it out of his purse? Maybe . . .
Kidnap and rape are one thing, but misgendering someone by referring to a transwoman carrying a purse as “his”…what is the world coming to?
Did you all just assume someone’s gender???
Has no one seen Active Self Protection on youtube? Endless videos showing these events and instructing you how to shoot armed robbers, carjackers etc.
You’ve got to cover your asp, apparently.
The handgun was not dubbed The Equalizer for nothing!
If was a white man for the Guardian “news” would be instead an example of racism…or just censored.
Good news indeed – and, yes Natalie, not where I would have expected to see the story.
Due to more malefactors using body armor, the current standard is two in the face.
Loved that last line, …”criminals in the Guardian.” Is that where they go for work after jail?
There’s a post called ‘International Liberty’, and today it features an article on the Check Republic. Apparently, the government approves of its’ citizens being armed! But Brussels is trying to impose euniform anti-gun ownership standards across Europe. Read the whole thing for yourselves…
Where in the world have you been? The murse has been a favorite accessory of the hipster metrosexual for at least a decade now.

… has just won the Internet for the day with “euniform”.
Thanks, Rich! It must be my lucky lifetime. Just last week I won 1,400 cents in Lotto! Now I’ve won this internet thingy for a whole day! And does this mean you didn’t like my much earlier quip about citizens of europe being europeons?
You have to remember that the typical Briton is a football hooligan, at least in the eyes of his government.
Not all countries look down on citizens defending themselves. It has taken 30 years for the US to reverse that thinking – and we have the 2nd Amendment on our side. But the UK could decide, “When seconds count, police are only minutes away,” is a thing, and embrace self-defense. (Not holding my breath over here…)
The UK has doubled down on its “Run, hide, tell” strategy. We tried that in response to what are known as “active shooter” incidents. Houston, Texas (of course) was one of the first .gov organizations to realize that doesn’t work too well. They went with “Run. Hide. Fight.” (I won’t add a link, but you can find there 5 minute – or so – video on the web.)
If more people had followed the lead of Roy Larner (of “I’m Millwall” fame) who knows what might have happened on London Bridge.
