We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

During the course of this splendid campaign, every Ponce in Christendom seems to have stuck his patrician nose about the parapet, sniffed the Great Unwashed and called on the waddling geese of Strasbourg to stand between them and us ruffians. Luvvies and musicians (acting and music being two former escape routes for we chavs now colonised by public school spawn) of course, identity politics social justice warriors (writing the most currently disadvantaged people around – white working class males – out of history, one gripe at a time) naturally. And Eddie Izzard! There have never been a greater number of people I’ve loathed who have been made to cry all at once.

  • Julie’s politics appear to have changed from the days when, IIRC, she was a youthful communist. For a long time, I was never sure (insofar as I ever gave one second’s thought to it) whether she was growing older and wiser or simply determined to be noticed often. I guess I’m still uncertain but some growth in wisdom may indeed have occurred. Let us hope so.

This is not a considered assessment of her. It is, and is intended to be, the response of someone who has never paid any attention but vaguely recalls seeing her name from time to time over the years, sometimes in oddly disparate contexts.

Of course, if the smart thing for those seeking the public eye has become to mock the whining “close your eyes and it will go away” people, that’s good news in any case.

She does illustrate I think quite well the divide between the “elites” and the rest of us. Never in a million years would JB and I vote the same way, yet I agree with her observation 100%. I too am richly enjoying the schadenfreude…

Likewise, but then as I have observed before, this was not a classical party political issue. And people pointing out that more Tories voted LEAVE than Labour voters did are missing a key point: that Tory and Labour do not really represent the actual state of UK civil society at the moment, which was why UKIP ended up with 4 million votes in the last election. The truth of that is the leader and majority of the parliamentary of the Tory party strongly backed REMAIN… and lost. So how elucidating is it to categorise those voters who demurred and voted LEAVE, as “Tory” voters, I wonder?

What a delightful article! Full of felicitous phrases: “the Taunting Of The Remnants*”, “Remnant Zombie Army”, “man-buns and clean-eaters”(??). Someone is certainly enjoying her super-sized helping of schadenfreude.

    * Is “Remnants” now the (or an) accepted term for Remainers, or is that just her word? I rather fancied “Remainders”, but “Remnants” does have more bite to it.

  • Mr Ed

Can we call the Remainders/Remnants/Left-overs ‘Mosleyites‘?

  • Paul Marks

    Indeed.

Well I have to admit “Every Ponce in Christendom” is a wonderful phrase.
