We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast and give to the poor. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. So he went on Twitter instead and called Michael Gove a ‘vile reptilian evil tory scumbag’, and linked to a cartoon of Iain Duncan Smith stealing a paralysed woman’s wheelchair. And lo, he felt better and went for a £3.50 caramel macchiato with some mates from the BBC.

– Libby Purves, who lives behind the Time paywall, has some fun with Matthew chapter 19. Mick Hartley quotes from the Purves piece at his blog, in a piece entitled Virtue signalling. You can’t Read The Whole Thing at Mick Hartley’s, but you can read a bit more of it.

  • Superb. Time to turn up the ridicule metre to maximum and set phasers to disintegrate, not stun.

    Good.

If the “Social Justice Warriors” of the BBC (and so on) really want to share their wealth with the poor……

Well I am poor – they can share their money with ME.

However, they do not the will to really share their money with the poor – so they slag off “the Tories” to make themselves feel better.

    Rather pathetic really.

I ask myself, What Would Vetinari Do?

Confiscate all their money, give it charity, and then assume an innocent, inquiring expression.

  • I ask myself, What Would Vetinari Do?

There are very few political questions that do not benefit from that question.

    Ditto Perry.

    What would Vetinari do?

It always involves a choice, doesn’t it?

British Bolshevik Corporation – just pull their funding – the world will be a better place.

Libby Purves has performed an important public service by naming something that had to be named. ‘Virtue Signalling’ is a concept we should all be spreading around. I’m already getting flak from lefty friends and associates for linking to the piece -it has clearly touched a raw nerve.

Perry, this left at the site in response to your comment there:

    PdH,

Been at the raw meat again, have we.

Well, I don’t mind, since I happen to agree with you.

I’ll say one thing about the Purves article & may more around in similar vein. STFU. This is not the time, it is never the time, to point out to your enemy the error of his tactics. Whilst he continues to err, he continues to lose. This I regard as an outcome of immense virtue but never to be signalled.
