We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people. Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. A lot of their stuff is pretty funny. I rather like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGTEOrX_I08
Oh gawd but that almost broke my ribs at the end!
The Scots should liberate themselves from their oppressive English masters so their own kin can oppress them.
Just a thought… How many liberty loving Englishmen would it take moving north of the border to swing the Scottish political landscape?
Since I have taken it to understand that the impetus behind empire was a search for better weather and better food, why would one want to go where the weather is crummier and closer to haggis? James Bond hung out in the Caribbean whenever he could, not the Orkneys 😉
to change a lightbulb: One
to shine the light of freedom in Scotland: One million, if each brings three like minded friends.
jsallison, enough with the denigration of haggis, already! I like the stuff, and I’m not even Scottish. As to the weather there, you have to admit that it can be pretty delightful in the summer (when it’s not raining), what with daylight lasting until 10:00 PM, etc. All in all I’m quite fond of Scotland (although perhaps they treat me better because I’m American, not British).
As to the video, I found it rather predictable and not particularly amusing. This one is a lot funnier.
Haggis is really just a type of sausage. No-one goes on about Frankfurter Würstchen or other types of sausages as though they are some inedible curiosity from the nearer parts of hell, so why does haggis attract such peculiar attentions? Like Laird, I like Haggis (I am Scottish, though).
@Laird, they might treat you better because you’re not English – the Scots are British. The only place I have experienced any anti-English sentiment is Edinburgh, though. Haven’t been to Scotland since 2011 though so things may have changed.
Agreed – much funnier.
Alex, I stand corrected. I realized the mistake after I had posted the comment. (No edit function, unfortunately!)
