We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Is it not heartwarming to see democratic institutions flourishing?

Ok, so a third of the country has been over run by blood thirsty Sunni Einsatzgruppen, but you know what? The Really Important Thing is not getting the national shit together, it is holding onto personal power in Baghdad! Forming pragmatic coalitions in wartime is for sissies!

Thank goodness for all those years of democratic nation building!

“The nomination is illegal and a breach of the constitution. We will go to the federal court to object.”

    Now that’s faith!

  • And spare a sigh for the scant but genuine democratic reformers in the Arab Middle East. Their dreams have fallen to ashes once again.

Perry, you should be careful. Some people might think you don’t mean it! They might accuse you of satire! Just thought I should warn you.

    Nick,
Even worse, I thought he was being facetious or even God forbid sarcastic.

  • Paul Marks

Lost half the country and has no plan to get it back – yet still will not resign.

    What a charming man.

“I reject your reality and substitute my own.” The battle cry of islam.

So, someone who was opposed to starting the project takes control and runs it into the ground by gross neglect. And that proves what, exactly?

BTW, the text entry windows now feature black text on very dark blue, which is essentially unreadable.

It proves trying to set up such institutions in a tribal society is a waste of time.

Nothing has changed at my end, checked on a PC, a Mac and an Android using 4 different browsers (Safari, IE, Firefox, Chrome). Try clearing your cache.

Three comments in a row … Paul’s, jsallison’s, and Rich’s … and they could just as well be referring to the object cluttering up the American WH as to some dude called Maliki, in far-off Iraq.

If nothing else, all those copies of the Iraqi constitution can be burned to keep them warm at night- when they run out of opponents to set alight, that is.

Must have been some glitch – the problem has gone away.

Just like the deaths of all those neglected NHS patients in Staffordshire proves that medical care for them was a waste of effort.

Huh? Endlessly pouring money into the NHS, now that is the waste of effort, when what is needed is an entirely different approach. A bit like endlessly pouring money into ‘nation building’ now that you mention it.
