We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Another party at Samizdata.net HQ… …which explains the meagre output on the blog today. Not a ‘blogger bash’, just a party.
The excuse for this bash was the visit of American writer and journalist Nancy Rommelmann and her charming daughter Tafv
Nancy listens to a lecture on why she needs to drink more Pimms
Some of the guests were surprised to hear there was not going to be a Frisbee throwing contest
Antoine was astonished to see proof that there is indeed a martial art associated with barbeque tools
The Three Furies seems rather mellow after imbibing significant amounts of Pimms
We have no idea who these two people are but they just appeared out of the gathering gloom like apparitions and ate all the fish

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

British folks BBQing?
I love globalization!
One of those “apparitions” looks suspiciously like “Jonathan Pearce”…
And of course, upon departure they said… “So long, and thanks for all the fish”?
*amon ducks a barrage of assorted aged vegetables
Russell: Nope… it is the Briffas(Link)!
But where do they find all those lovely babes ? Last time I BBQed fish, all I got was a flashing red truck and a bunch of local firemen crashing through the door.
What’s Pimms?
Another great party, Perry. And Russell, it’s just as well my wife is a forgiving sort. She doesn’t usually take kindly to being mistaken for Johnathan, good-looking chap that he is.
Lol, Briffa I can imagine.
Tatyana: Look here(Link).
I would put Mr. Galineau’s question a little more delicately, thouhg it is one which all of us Americans are thinking, but which it took our forthright French expat to actually say out loud. Perhaps the Brits on here could offer a clinic for American bloggers, who seem to have trouble meeting anyone socially who even meets the minimal criteria of adult, human female. Married myself, so not an issue for me. But why women who are actually pretty attend these kinds of events in Britain is a question which really demands an answer.
Thanks, Perry.
It’s on my list now. I wonder if I can get one here in NY…
Perry, if things keep on like this the paparazzi are going to start beseiging your place on account of all the lovely and smart women!
Looks like fun.
I must try to wangle myself an invite to the next one.
With all due respect, somebody ought to tell Antoine not to wear Hawaiian print shirts. He looks like he’s come straight out of the ’70s!
😮 :-p
Europeans were grilling long before the Yanks. By the way, the word “barbeque” comes from “babacua”, which is a word from a Native American language.
