We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people. Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Wish that were true for me
I have nothing new to say about the legendary, brilliant PJ, but taking the “lighter note” cue from Jonathan, click on this link for things our American cousins like about Britain. After the bombings, the Vodka Pundit invited Americans to post what they love about Britain, under the heading Fuck Yeah! (Link) It’s fabulous and funny, and who would have guessed they know so much about us!
Of course, someone had to say that perhaps “Guy Fawkes! Fuck yeah!” was “inappropriate”. Can we ever again see commentary that does not equate the people with their wanna-be rulers?
damaged – Yes. I noticed that too. Given the vast volume of funny and surprising things Americans had listed they like about us on that site, someone must have been crawling through it panting for a chance to grab the moral high ground.
I like a passage from one of PJ’s books where he addresses the issue of allegedly-racially-insensitive sports team names. He followed up his main point, that nobody names teams after people they don’t like, with a few hypothetical team names, including “Dallas White Trash,” or something to that effect.
I’m not offended. I live in Irving.
Wow, that’s a lot of fuck yeahs.
Someone had better have mentioned Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and the entire New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.
m/FUCK YEAH!m/
Robert; I’m not sure as I haven’t read the entire list. However, one person did mention Spinal Tap, which meant that someone else was obliged to point out that :
a) Spinal Tap aren’t a real band,
and b) the actors are actually American.
Spinal Tap aren’t real and are American?
Lies! Filthy lies!!!!!!!!
Um, crap, forgot to leave a little something to indicate that was meant to be humorous.
Too late, ya think?
“Tap” might not a be a real band, but believe me: that’s a true story.
From The Observer a few weeks ago,
I’m a libertarian…
In my case the quote should probably read, “A libertarian is a liberal with an acknowledged vice, like, say, being conservative.”
Ha.
and b) the actors are actually American.
Not the 5th Baron Haden-Guest (a.k.a. Christopher Guest).
Yeah the Tap movie is very accurate about metal band and their tours. That is a damn funny movie that never gets old.
I’m not a fucking conservative.
