We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day – Regime propaganda aimed at grooming a gullible public Into accepting the Online Safety Act Why? How many real-life, off-screen cases of femicide has Tate actually been provably linked with? Not as many as a casual newspaper reader may be led to presume. Andrew didn’t bomb all those little girls to death at the Manchester Arena a few years back, did he? Mere days after Adolescence went up on Netflix, the UK’s counter-terrorism tsar, Robin Simcox, released a report into 100 convicted UK-based terrorists arrested between 2004 and 2021, analysing their “mindset material”, like social media activity. This found that, of the 100 studied, 85 could be classed as Islamists, 14 as ‘far-Right’ (whatever that even is now) and… one as being an incel. Appropriately enough, really, for such a committed breed of professional loners.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Officials and “experts” have wanted this censorship measure for many years – and they have used politicians (of all political parties) as puppets. I wish I could say this was unusual – but it is common practice. Indeed most “Policy” is made by officials and “experts” with elected people (of all parties) being used as front-persons.
Do I like Andrew Tate? No I do not – and his Muslim faith is NOT the reason I dislike him, I find him loud and irritating – and, yes, he sometimes says highly offensive things.
But is he responsible for attacks on women and girls in Britain? No he is not – the officials and “experts” are lying.
I sometimes get complaints for using such words as “lying” and “lies” – but they clearly know that what they are saying is not true, and to say things one knows to be untrue, with the intent to deceive (not as a joke – with intent the deceive), is to LIE.
They are LYING in order to justify their censorship measure.
It is not even a new trick – 300 years ago (yes three centuries ago) Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole wanted to censor political plays – because he did not like dissent.
But he could hardly say that, so he presented a play to the House of Commons – the play supported rape, murder and so on. The Members of Parliament were shocked (well some were – some just pretended to be shocked) and passed the censorship of the theatre Bill – the Lord Chamberlain did not formally lose the power to censor plays till the 1960s. Sir Robert Walpole did not tell Parliament that he himself had-had the play written.
The internet censorship measure is not really about “protecting women and girls” – like all censorship measures, the real target is political and cultural dissent.
Paul,
I agree. If they really wanted to protect “women and girls” they wouldn’t be actively campaigning for strapping 6ft nonces to be allowed into the changing rooms now would they?
But…
This is also just a good ole moral panic. I have lived through a few… punk rock, video nasties, D&D, computer games (and yes, that has come up again – just like the zombies in so many games over the years always come back), the internet, smartphones, “screen-time”*, emojis and God knows what else. The media loves it (sells copy), activists, moral guardians, nutters and control-freaks all love it. Politicians love it because, “Something must be done!” and they get to cos-play Churchill.
*Because obviously reading something from a screen is morally degrading but from a book it is uplifting. By that logic my stash of cuneiform tablets makes me a saint.
Paul – being a thoroughly unpleasant person doesn’t necessarily make him a mohamedan. I searched a bit on the internet and couldn’t find any reference to that particular mental disability. Help us out here.
gnome – Mr Tate claims to be a follower of the Islamic faith – I am surprised (in the modern sense of “surprised” – I suppose I should say “astonished”) that you can not find that on the internet. It has nothing to do with him being unpleasant. Nor is being a Muslim a mental disability – some highly intelligent people are Muslim.
NickM – yes indeed.
gnome – I just typed “Andrew Tate Muslim”, and there (on the first page) was the information that Mr Tate converted to Islam in 2022. Which I already knew – but I wanted to know if the internet would tell me.
I am using a standard Microsoft system – nothing special.
Search engine, Paul. You’ve got to specify the search engine.
A highly dishonest study, since convictions means suicide bombers, like the one who murdered 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in 2017 or those who murdered 52 people in London in 2005, are not counted. If you instead tallied the body count of murderous terrorism by ideology, Islam would be at the root of 99% of cases in the same period.
Clovis Sangrail – no I do not Sir.
I have already said I am not using a special search engine. I believe that Microsoft calls its search engine “Bing” – but I do not know, and I just typed “Andrew Tate Muslim” onto my computer screen (at the top – I did not make a formal effort to go to a search engine) – the search engine was up to them (not me).
I did not need to search – because I have seen Mr Tate speak (not in person – but via the internet).
Andrew Tate talks about his brothers-and-sisters in Gaza – not because he is a “Palestinian” (a term not in common usage when I was born) – but because he is a Muslim.
By the way – I will type “carbon dioxide” from now on, as some people are offended by “C02” and I can not be bothered to learn how to type a little “2”.
@Paul Marks
Well no, of course you don’t need to specify the search engine (I was allowing myself a little informality and linguistic elision), but if you want to understand why you might get very different search results then you should know that the search engine that you use (and you will use one, in your case by default) will have a significant impact.
