We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Out to Launch Tomorrow afternoon I am off to Los Angeles… and thence to the Mojave desert to watch SpaceShipOne head for space. I will try to post some more when I get to Rand Simberg’s place in LA.
In the meantime, you can get a copy of the Aldridge Commission Report here. You do not know what it is? Well, then, follow the link! As for me, I am off to bed… there are some rather long days ahead.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Dale…
I am *jealous*.
Have a grand time, and tell us ’bout it all!
Enjoy yourself, methinks the 21st June could be a very important day. The day we finally start to make space accessible.
Here’s hopin’
Have fun!

You lucky b*****d! You lucky, lucky b*****d! If I had the cash (or even enough credit left on my cards) I’d be going too. All being well, next Monday’s going to be a historic day. Enjoy your trip!
Mojave in June is impressive – Take water spray device, shade hat, wind coping mechanisms. Enjoy.
I’m going too! WOOOOHOOOOO!
Don’t be too jealous- Dale’s going to be sleeping on the floor of our hangar, along with a few dozen other fanatics^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H true believers. Place will look like a homeless shelter…
Photographs. We need photographs! By the dozen!
Curses!
With my new strategic homebase of Palmdale, CA, I was hoping to be the blogger that would post with an eyewitness report. Sigh, life can be tough on the little guy.
Sincerely, I hope you enjoy your trip to LA and the High Desert, Dale.

This may be a dumb question, but I gotta ask: where specifically would one go in Mojave, in order to watch this? I’ve been through it a bunch of times, but always via US 395, thence east to Barstow.
Thanks,
Norm
I answered my own question — Scaled has all the info one needs on the website:

Have fun, Dale!
Reach for the sky, gents…
Hi everyone.
I just was at the NASA workshop on the Centennial Challenge Prizes in DC.
The big news from there is not only that NASA has really taken the X Prize lessons to heart (at least for the moment) but that Jeff Bezos is building a sub orbital system, that Elon Musk is going to eventually man rate some future version of his Falcon Rocket and there is a strong indication that Richard Branson is going to announce something on Monday.
Space Tourism is no longer the giggle inducing idea that it was four years ago. Its now one of the main factors in launch vehicle development. Great newsm BUT lets try and keep thing in perspective. Five years ago everyone thought that the LEO constellation market for Comsats would save the launch industry.
Enjoy yourself Dale.
