We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

No safety in weaseldom In recent days there have been reports of ricin in France and a foiled attack in Germany.
This should be instructive to those who believe the danger will go away if we just close our eyes and believe three impossible things before breakfast.
If you are going to get hit either way you might as well stand and fight.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Well said. One might also add this observation: one of the more absurd complaints about the Iraqi War has been that, by straining Euro-American relations, we weaken Europe’s will to cooperate with us in the war on Terror. That would be so suicidal it might even cause a stir in Berlin or Paris.
They believe they can “manage” problems they are not willing to fight.
Allah will protect the innocent people of Iraq and Allah will not spare the enemy
It’s amazing that the people of France, Germany, and Belgium appear to actually believe that placating Muslim terrorists on their home soil will somehow ensure freedom from domestic terroristic attacks.
Haven’t the attacks to date indicated that the terrorists are equal opportunity terrorists who will go after the best targets available, anywhere in the East or West?
I hate to break the news to you, but you know what those people will say: the terrorists would leave France and Germany alone if only Blair and Bush had not provoked them.
It’s always our fault. No matter what happens, it is -always- our fault.
Always.
Allah will protect the innocent people of Iraq
Like he protected them from the tender mercies of Sadam and his sons?
and Allah will not spare the enemy
Like he spared Saddam & his regime?
Me thinks Allah needs to get his priorities straight.
“They believe they can “manage” problems they are not willing to fight.”
And here I was thinking it was;
close your eyes, click your heels together three times, and think of peace. 😉

Germany isn’t doing any placating or appeasing.
Germany may oppose the war on Iraq, but
it is strongly in the war on terror. Germany’s is the biggest contingent of the ISAF peacekeeping force in Kabul, a hundred German commandos are fighting Taleban and Al Quaeda in the country alongside US Special Forces, German ships and
troops are at the Horn of Africa to prevent Al Queda
from moving personnel and supplies there, German
troops have relieved American ones in the Balkans so that they can go to the Middle East, German NBC
specialists are in Kuwait, German troops are guarding the American bases in Germany in the absence while their garrisons are in the ME also (a great relief for the soldiers’ families) and last but not least has Germany sent Patriot launchers and over 120 missiles to Israel to help defend it. Oh, and Germany also sent Patriot missiles and launchers to Turkey.
That may not be much compared to the American effort to depose Saddam, but it is all Germany can do, given the depleted state of our forces right now and also, Germany’s is the second largest contribution after the American one to Operation Enduring Freedom.
You can hardly call this appeasement. In fact, we are used to being appeased. 😉
Conjecture: Appeasement tends to backfire because the Bad Guys, being essentially bullies, eventually tire of attacking the strong and fall instead upon the weak. Insofar as appeasement shows weakness or lack of resolve, in the long run by appeasing Bad Guys you actually make it more likely they’ll hit you.
