I listened to a video of John Holdren, Director of the Office of Science & Technology Policy this afternoon. He is refreshingly frank about providing support for the economy, environment, health, energy etc, by supporting research and development, and making the teaching of science, technology, engineering, and maths, exciting and effective.
It reminds me of the final scene of Atlas Shrugged(Link).
