We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day Masks are like the Hindenburg line. You can retreat from all the rest, but if you ever give up the masks, the crisis is over for good. The longer the masks can be maintained, the longer they needn‘t admit defeat.
– Burnley Beresford (£), commenting on an article about the persistent mask lunacy in Germany (not £).

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

We still have mask wearing here in New Zealand, although it may change next Wednesday.I was pleased to see a lot of people not bothering though when I went to an Auto Show last Saturday. They really are pointless.
Masks keep away bad juju and evil spirits. C’mon man … don’t you believe in science?
One must be careful in one’s choice of words – because there are masks which will stop a virus. However, they are not the masks that are being pushed.
The masks that are being pushed (not all masks – the masks that are being pushed, by mandates and so on) are about power and control over people – not stopping a virus.
I still wear a mask everyday, even in bed. How else will fellow Guardian readers recognise me?
I don’t see how the writer can simultaneously say that the Covid virus is now like regular flu and also that it is still a major problem. Regular flu has been happening every year since for ever and we have dealt with it just by getting on with life as normal.
Yes. I don’t see a need to get religious about it, one way or the other.
The reality is that viruses, especially Covid, are substantially airborne. Thus avoiding airborne contamination is a good idea, by whatever means.
Personally I mainly prefer to just keep a reasonable distance, especially from anyone who might want to shout in my face.

Canada still requires that on all flights into and out of the country, masks must be worn at all times.
If you have the misfortune to fly Air Canada at the moment, stewards spend the whole flight marching up and down the aisles barking at people to replace the mask between bites, or to raise it another inch up their nose. They also constantly wake people on overnight flights for the same reason.
Don’t fly air Canada.
