We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day Suddenly we’re told there’s a brand new bill that looks like it was written by the National Security Agency that has to be passed in the same manner that a surveillance bill in the United States was passed in 2007, and it has to happen now. And we don’t have time to debate it, despite the fact that this was not a priority, this was not an issue that needed to be discussed at all, for an entire year. It defies belief.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

We have to pass the bill before we know what’s in it, except that the NSA knows what’s in everything.
a bill a day keeps the public sector at play
Is it me, or are people a little nervous about commenting on this because, of course, it’s all true?
I think people just expect this shit, so what to say? It is of course the reaction ‘they’ are perfect happy with.
This just keeps getting better and better. Now we know that GCHQ has the ability to “seed the internet with false information, including the ability to manipulate the results of online polls, artificially inflate pageview counts on web sites, ‘amplify’ sanctioned messages on YouTube, and censor video content judged to be ‘extremist’.” We all assumed that they are monitoring Samizdata; what else are they doing here?
Laird,
But what accounts for the amazing amount of drivel and vitriol in a typical Youtube comments section? It would be nice to think it was government spambots, rather than a skewed sample of humanity.
Mr Ed,
I always assumed that the name “YouTube” was derived from the U-bend familiar to plumbers, and was intended to convey a similarity of purpose. The U-bend is designed as a trap for the containment of sewer gases. The YouTube comments section, at least, appears to have an identical function.
The Weltmeisters have finally learned the lessons of Enigma.

I smell big bucks in the homing-pigeons industry.
