We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Boris Johnson’s Olympic Welcome Incoming from Michael J, drawing my attention to this video of the Mayor of London flagging up the Olympic Games in appropriately manic style, minus a great deal of piss that has been edited out of him, so to speak. The official grand opening is tomorrow.
Right at the end, in the one bit of Not Boris, someone shouts: “I hate Sebastian Coe!” This, if I am not mistaken, was Jeremy Paxman. I did not know he felt that way about Coe. (LATER: He doesn’t. Or not publicly. Not Paxman. See first comment.)
This sort of thing is the twenty first century’s version of pelting those who consider themselves Great and Good with vegetables.
Enjoy.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

The “I hate” was Chris Morris from a “The Day Today” skit.
Very Paxmanesque.
Limpiks, what’s that runnin and swimmin sort of stuff for lounge xperts.

But obviously not here
The Olympics… a “curious combination of the Soviet and the commercial.” Yep: it really is utterly philistine. I would save skiing and maybe gymnastics, but that’s about it. The rest of it is just wank.
Don’t forget the Nazi, and also the Francoist.
And then this morning…
“The bells, the bells! They mke me deaf!”
Frankly everyone involved in “organizing” this farce ought to be coated in treacle and thrown to the honey badgers.
I do like the suggestion that we should wear this T-shirt.
I suffer from Olympic Aversion Syndrome and find that I can instantly detect an impending relevant report by the silly smile on the face of the newscaster. There was one this morng on the Beeb where five people were lined up, each sporting the same silly smile and I swear I had changed the channel in less than a microsecond.
I find it instructive to consider that when something was found that the political elite agreed upon there was no democractic consultation about it.
There are of course a great many such things but with a discrete and large event such as the Olympics it was pretty transparent.
What is the scuttlebutt over there about Mitt Romney being “disconcerted” about how the London Olympics have been run so far?
