A rat has been photographed outside 10 Downing Street. Presumably the only thing that makes this news worthy is it was not exiting the building and getting into an official chauffeured government vehicle on its way to Parliament.

That rat appears to be an uninvited quest. Two years ago in South Carolina, the (former) governor carried a couple of pigs into the State House, to protest waste. I think your rat is more welcome.
Seriously, if you only collect refuse once a fortnight, vermin are to be expected. The Victorians knew that.
“Seriously, if you only collect refuse once a fortnight, vermin are to be expected.”
Shame we only collect it every five years.
Elections every week then!
Politicians are like underwear and need to be changed often for the same reason.
If only a cat would solve the problem.
I thought Downing Street had a cat. Every decent home needs to have one, preferably a psycho Tomcat, not a Garfield with a pizza habit.
On a slightly more serious tack, there is, I hear, quite a problem with rats in UK towns and cities, often to do with people throwing away food and so on.
Looks like Rentokil will see its business rise then.
Apparently Cherie Blair didn’t like Humphrey the Number 10 cat, so it was kicked out (although I believe a good home was found for it). Typical.
I vote for Fat Freddy’s cat.
I had presumed that McCavity is a permanent resident.
Hey, stop insulting the rattus rattus/norwegicus of London. They have standards. It’s the limousine riders who don’t.
Laird, your reference to McCavity is heavy-handed and served no purpose except to advertise to the world that you’ve read T S Elliott and didn’t understand him.
Regarding your first inept post above, why would a rat be more welcome than a pig? Both are highly intelligent mammals … one small and one larger. But both very clever.
What was your point? Why did you post?
All this talk about cats…the eliminationist rhetoric just never ends.
Actually, Verity, I should ask you the same question. You obviously have no sense of humor. Or you forgot to take your meds. Whatever. If you don’t care for my posts, ignore them (as I shall yours).
And lighten up; you’ll live longer.
Good post Perry.
Good comments Laird.
