We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people. Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house] Authors

Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Behold the power of cheese
One of the reasons why there are French. (others include pinot noir, cabernet, merlot, etc. etc. )
Wasn’t that Pratchett?
If Jello made a cheese flavor, would there be twice as much room?
Yup, Pratchett.
I rather doubt Terry Patchett was the first to make this self-evident statement… it was probably first uttered sometime around 8000 BC, thus Guy speaks not the false prophet Pratchett but rather the Wisdom of Ages :-p
A wise man never says no to cheese
They may live on bamboo, but they’re vicious buggers. Although I prefer a good Wisconsin or Vermont cheddar.
Okay, mebbe a New York cheddar in a pinch…
Yes, that’s true but there is ALWAYS definitely room for bacon.
Especially Wensleydale!
Too much cheese can make a country ungovernable though.
President De Gaulle said so. 😉
I take it we’re excluding Cheese Stringas and Wotsits, though?
And a glass of port and a creamy blue stilton make the age-old alliance between England and Portugal seem so much more understandable.
No, there is always room… in the garbage… for those too
I suspect Pratchett was paying fromage to Tolkien. I think the Pratchett quote refers to a Wizards banquet and it echoes Hobbit thoughts about the stage of dinner they refer to as “filling out the corners” i.e. when the cheese and port etc are served.
Old G.K. would have approved.
I’d like to submit one I just posted over on Transterrestrial musings about the Obama administration:
“You need to realize that “community organizer” is one of those european phrases that has a lot of silent letters in it. It is properly pronounced “commie-czar”.”
