It seems that the Saudis and the UAE have got upset about the use of Blackberrys for such evil purposes as enabling young men and women to get a date. Various so-called “national security” issues are also cited.
Sheesh.

That proves the merits of the continuous flow of Muslims to Europe: one day we’ll hopefully be spared the horrors of making dates using Blackberries. Or even better: perhaps we’ll be prevented from making dates at all. And (we can only hope for this) – we might even be able to stone those who do. Multiculturalism: don’t you just love it?
Y dont you just get the facts right? They are blocking cos BB sends data to offshore comapny to encrypt which can be risky as they cannot be tried under local law if anything goes wrong. NOT date.
What’s with this islamophobia? huh? Stereotypes . Not all Muslim chop heads like Columbus or Hitler.
Risky to whom?
Is that so, Sherlock? And *you* know this for a fact, do you? Link to your source or get lost.
And in any case, avoiding Saudi laws sounds like an *excellent* use of technology to me.
Islam is a fascistic ideology that just happens to also be a religion and I for one do not give a damn if stating that obvious fact upset anyone.
Not all Muslim chop heads …
No, but we’re not talking about all Muslims.
We’re talking particularly about the governments of KSA and UAE, with their well documented fascist and head-chopping inclinations.
PLUS, if they joined the EU (and if Turkey can, anyone can), the European Police can arrest just about anyone. No need to worry about jurisdictional distinctions, like between the laws of Britain and France, or Saudi Arabia! They can arrest anyone!
Wheeeeeeeeeeee, as 5,000 years of civilisation goes downb the islamic squat hole!
Verity, they will only arrest guilty parties, who will voluntarily confess their misdeeds when in police custody. If they throw themselves down stairs in contrition, that is their business! Get a grip!
I bet, if they made them white and called them Whiteberries, they’d have no trouble! Black, as a colour, can be depressing!
A bit more background.

Really it is a matter of the UAE and Saudi intelligence services being unable to read Blackberry traffic to keep track of dissidents and commercial rivals to the state, and RIM not thinking them important enough as a market (unlike China) to help them out with that.
