We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Facebook and its eroding privacy My good friend Stateside, Russell E Whitaker, is, like an increasing number of Facebook users, getting annoyed at how any privacy settings that might seem to be available on the service are not being respected and have in fact been eroded, according to this report. Now, I have always taken the view that the internet is not a fully robust thing from a privacy point of view, but then again, if a business claims to respect privacy, but it turns out there is a problem, then users are entitled to feel angry.
I have a FB page, but I never put sensitive personal stuff on there and I tend to prune so-called “friends” pretty ruthlessly if I find that anyone is taking liberties with me. But I take the risk, at least for the moment.
But the beauty of this technology and indeed of capitalism is that complaints about an issue – such as privacy – are already spawning new ventures and ideas. I am not sure how this venture will work out (based in NY) but I wish it the best of luck.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

There’s nothing to worry about. The EU is on the case.

Well that’s me reassured…
I don’t have a Facebook account and have no interest in getting one.
Believing a ‘privacy’statement’ or whatever is akin to believing a politician’s promise.
I cannot credit the crass stupidity of those who, while bemoaning CCTV cameras & state intrusion, drop their trousers to reveal all on a public forum accessed by millions of folk with the same low IQ…Arsebook…or, for our transatlantic brethren, Assbook…would be more apposite.
I’ve migrated all my content over to folkdirect.com – I only share with those I choose and I can hide/show whatever I want. It’s built on strong privacy controls (with no silly applications that steal your info!)
