We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Tradition trashed in the eurovision First there was the financial crisis; then, our entire political numpties were found out to be embezzlers. But now, we have a real black swan.
Nul point Norway wins Eurovision with the highest number of points ever achieved in the competition.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Only because Europe wants Norway’s oil.
I watched the end of the votıng whıle flıppıng between Turkısh and Russıan tv channels, god forbıd that I actually heard any of the songs.
Im goıng for a lıe down now.
I fear for my mental health!
Norway – the black swan of eurovision?? Nah… we have won before, you know!.. 🙂
Anyways… now we have to arrange next years Eurovision.. and the threat and violence (“tax and license”)-financed governmental broadcaster NRK have already begun preparations for looting the population… They demand 130 million norwegian kroner (about US$ 20 million) for Eurovision 2010! And will use any violence available to them to get that money.. And believe me.. in a “social-democracy” (now there’s a contradiction in terms for ya!!) there are alot of violence available for tax-collectors..
Yup… I’m sooo glad Alexander won… Hurray!!! …
Tory: no contradiction at all:-)
Aleksandr Rybak isn’t even Norwegian – he was born in what is now Belarus, which is why he was popular with the slavs.
Good luck Norway; no doubt the cost will be worth it (I’m not a Norwegian tax-payer so I can assert this with confidence – lol). Of course, this mediocre song from a performer with only mediocre talent won only because he is actually from Belarus, so it’s really a continuation of Eastern European domination, cunningly disguised through the Trojan Horse of a Norwegian ‘cover story’.
Er… here in the USA, Norwegians appear mostly in jokes about Minnesota. Could someone clue us in as to what this is all about?

Congratulations to this year’s winner from Minsk (must be one of the outer Norwegian provinces), singing in English. There’s a message there, if only I could understand it.
Watched the video on YouTube. It is a catchy little number. But did anyone else think that the two blonde Norwegian girls doing the backup vocals were maybe a trifle — plump? Could rich Norway be on the path to outweighing the bloated US?
On the other hand, the three male (East European-looking) dancers were fighting-fit & fantastic performers. Then I read that the fiddle-playing winner described the Eurovision contest as the biggest gay event in the world. Oh well!
Not as good as Bobbysocks…
I actually watched this show.
As for politics…….
I considered voting for Israel as a political point, but in the end I voted for the Estonian entry – because I thought it was a better performance (it was also brave as there was no attempt at pop singing – not just that it was not sung in English, there was also none of the normal pop sounds).
The BBC (the network I watched the show on) showed their usual contempt for traditional things by their presenter sneering that the Estonian entry “sent him to sleep”. However, the writer of the British entry (Mr Lloyd-Webber) when asked what entries he feared as competitors made a special point of favourably mentioning the Estonian entry.
