We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Samizdata quote of the day

People sometimes say they wish the politicians would get together and agree, instead of bickering and arguing. I wish the politicians and political parties would disagree more about the issues, so that actions and policies can be properly tested and choices evaluated. Consensus often breeds the worst errors.

    Aye,

a similar thought popped into my head the other day.

Although the sentiment was: if they bicker they’re less likely to have a successful policy by which to meddle socially.

…or something to that effect ;?)

    Gridlock is good!

  • Laird,

    I agree 100%.
In the U.S., the last thing we need is more politicians “reaching across the aisle” in order to “achieve a bipartisan concensus”.

The word “partisan” was hardly ever used in the media until the Republican Revolution took power away from the Democrats.

Somehow the word “partisan” became a smear….as if politicians shouldn’t oppose what they promised to oppose.

I wish they would all fuck off and die, but apparently that’s childish.

  • I wish they would stand by their principles*, and never back down a single inch.

When the Stupid party and the Evil party get together and do something that is both stupid and evil, that’s called bipartisanship.

    *Assuming they actually have any.

I think this is a corrollary of a more general principle. Received wisdom is guaranteed worthless, and when there is popular agreement about something then that view is wrong.

Couldn’t agree more. There is very little to choose between the main UK political parties these days. Both NuLab and NeoCon are intent on the “middle ground”.
