Here is a tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives on this day, seven years ago, trying to rescue those attacked by mass murderers in New York City.
May they all rest in peace.

We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people. Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Amen
Indeed may all the victims rest in peace.
And let us keep alert for fresh attacks.
Amen
I can remember wandering through New York in 2004, not far short of the 3rd anniversary of the attacks, and coming across a firehouse in the Upper West Side. On the front wall of the firehouse were listed the names and dates of firefighters who’d died on duty from that firehouse; against September 11 2001, there were IIRC 10 names. That firehouse lost all of its firefighters who were on duty at the time of the attacks. Just brings into perspective the level of loss New York’s Bravest suffered that day.
