Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Well, yeah, but Affleck didn’t win for his acting, so it’s hardly a valid comparison, is it?
Or was EGR a closet scriptwriter of the highest order?
Cough … Affleck’s Oscar was for Best Screen play (shared with M. Damon), not for acting.
I suppose we still need to know why Mr. Robinson didn’t win an Oscar. Probably because he didn’t belong to the right group, but only had his talent to rely on. And the concept of life-time achievement wasn’t in vogue when he was.
Perhaps they can start up a Posthumous Oscar? Giving an Oscar to dead actors who we now think deserved one, even though they didn’t get one when alive?
He did received a Honorary Oscar

“Robinson was never nominated for an Academy Award, but in 1973 he was awarded an honorary Oscar in recognition that he had “achieved greatness as a player, a patron of the arts, and a dedicated citizen … in sum, a Renaissance man”.[5] He died from cancer at the age of 79, two months before the award ceremony”
Clockwork, that is good to know! thanks
