We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

The truth is out there (II) Sometimes the internet opens one’s eyes to whole new ways of seeing the world. A fabulous comment over on David Davis’s semi-blog (no permalink I could see, under “Sky News Debate with Tony McNulty”):
David Davis doesn’t want a real debate on the Orwellian State – he wants a controlled one that’s only on his terms with safe people like Tony Benn and Bob Geldof.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Sometimes Brit humor sails over the heads of us yanks. Does this whole new way of seeing the world involve reptilian alien overlords?
David Icke is a famous nutjob, if you are wondering why the reptilian comments were made, who talks about aliens invading or something. A bit before my time. But.

Wikipedia knows all.
Yes, last toryboy. To find that, you had to follow the link and then another non-permalink, search down through the comments, read past the part Guy quoted, and then recognize the name “Davide Icke,” who is being lauded by the fabulous commenter for standing up to big brother.
Just seems like Guy didn’t leave a lot of bread crumbs leading to that particular Easter egg…
When I first read Guy’s posting I thought …
“Oh no – for years libertarians have been asking (without much hope) mainstream politicians to make a stand. And now that a leading politician has done so (and, according to the whispers from the Conservative party leadership, ended his career by doing so) we are slagging him off”.
Then I read the comments and understand that this is not went Guy was doing at all.
I apologize for my misinterpretation of your posting Guy.
Not to worry, Paul.
Just in case anyone is still confused, I have a lot of time for Davis, even though I undoubtably disagree with him on lots. The anti ID-card campaign in this country in particular has a huge amount to be grateful to him for, as having derailed Michael Howard’s attempt to provide Tory backing for the scheme.
