We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people. Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Driving a hybrid does indeed seem to lead to smugness.
For example driving at 100 miles per hour (well at least that hybrids can move fast) whilst under the influence of drink and drugs (even though one has been convicted of doing this before). The thought seems to be “I am a special person, who is an environmental activist, therefore the normal rules of good conduct do not apply to me”.
Albert Gore Jr would fit into the cartoon well.
The only “hybrid” I like the look of is this one(Link). A proper series hybrid, full regen braking, 640bhp, 900 mile range (200 plug-in) and British design that fits all the necessary into a standard BMW Mini.
Frankly the Toyota “Pious” seems like a trick by their engine and transmission mafia to stay in the loop.
This hilarious commercial is related. Smug, but funny
