Help one of the good guys

Zeyad, one of our favorite Iraqi bloggers needs to raise money to attend CUNY’s School of Journalism.

If you have enjoyed his postings, consider giving him a hand.

    I dunno Dale-
As much as I admire Zeyad, … perhaps because I admire Zeyad, I am conflicted on his attending an American J-school. Just look at the intellectually halt and lame creatures that they have churned out which now infect our MSM.

…. this is a tough one.

Is any J-school safe to attend?

Perhaps it’s best that he does come here to confront the typical mindset so ingrained in leftist journalism.

I would look forward to Zayed’s impact on them. It is a clash of cultures: ours (Zayed and us) and theirs (CUNY)!

I wanna raise money to get a PSP. Can I pass my hat around?

Seriously, though. Journalism is a profession with no formal entry qualifications. If this guy’s blog is widely-read he’s already doing it.

Agreed. In what other profession would you get a whole bunch of “amateurs” on the internet doing exactly the same thing and often to a better standard? If journalism is about communicating vaguely factual information to a public, then your average journalist is the equivalent of a witch-doctor. You don’t need to study to be a witch-doctor, just believe in yourself.

Hey guys, my old (’93) VW Vento has just passed the local equivalent of the MOT test here & I’m happy about that. My amour propre would, however, be more content with a new Lexus. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

What is he going to learn at CUNY graduate school of journalism? How to apply for a job at the NYTimes or Washington Post?

If he’s writing a successful and sought-after blog, he can find a job in journalism somewhere. I’ve never read a column by a columnist that was signed, say, by William Rees-Mogg, MJS (Masters in Journalism Science or some such nonsense).

This guy just wants to go to NYC. Let him go, and try his luck, as millions have done before him. Of course, asking for contributions is also “trying his luck” and I don’t blame him! But I certainly wouldn’t help to finance him.
