“Hi, we’re aliens from another planet and our intentions are purely hostile.”

We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people. Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. That’s sadly more acurate than most visions people have.
The aliens are two of the best characters in The Simpsons. My favourite story involving them was when Lisa wished for world peace, all the weapons in the world disappeared, and the feeble aliens were then able to invade. I recently saw another episode where guns were banned in Springfield and Billy The Kid rose from the dead and terrorised the town. Somebody in that writing team gets it.
Well, if we ever were to contact aliens, I doubt their way of thinking would follow anything as human as that.
Aliens are just that: Alien.
Well, at least they’re honest. It’s easier to deal with honest hostiles.
Deleted by editor: sorry but we have a strict ‘no morons’ policy here

…Nah… they are just trying to scares us, that’s not true, they are just trying to get an advantage for negotiation, they would lying if they intendend to extreminate us… like us fighting democracy, see we have been promoting popular democracies… we are that sophisticated :o)
Damn, I would have liked to have read little girl’s screed before it was deleted.
Another amusing aliens cameo was when they were both running for president.
I still reckon that Futurama is better than The Simpsons, however.
James Waterton – What’s Futurama?
Verity – a cartoon created by Matt Groening, who also created the Simpsons. When in doubt, turn to Wikipedia!
Futurama’s great.
Incidentally, Verity, did you ever read that Vikram Seth novel?
Oh, so you’re Suffering! I wondered where you’d got to! No, re Seth, for very complicated reasons, but it is at the top of the list of books to buy. I’ve also been reading about Shiva Naipaul in The Speccie and Geoffrey Wheatcroft says he was a more incisive writer than VJ, who I think is wonderful. So he is also on the list now. I have to send off to Amazon.
What episode is this from?
I searched the episode guide at snpp.com, as well as thesimpsons.com, and couldn’t find a link to your quote in either place.
Ted, I cannot recall what it was called but I saw the episode on British TV on Thursday evening. It featured this hilarious scene where two aliens look down on the USA which has a giant CND peace symbol on it.
The Simpson’s is up there with “King of the Hill” as my favourite regular animation show.
