We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.
Samizdata, derived from Samizdat /n. - a system of clandestine publication of banned literature in the USSR [Russ.,= self-publishing house]

Another triumph of the French state I wonder if the fact France is, get this, cracking down on opponents of the theocratic tyranny in Iran will produce howls of anger from the same people who complain that the US has on many occasions propped up unsavoury regimes for various reasons? I have my doubts as most are convinced that if the US is not involved in something, it does not really happen.
Why is the French state doing this? Well who knows… I am sure that fact lucrative deals have been signed in Iran by French companies over the last few months have nothing to do with it. Nope, that could not possibly be the reason.

Who Are We? The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling.
We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe.

Once again the French prove how hypocritical they are!
Perry de Havilland writes:
“Why is the French state doing this? Well who knows… ”
Surely we all know the formula by now: ‘It’s all about oil!’.
Ah, Mr.Pot, meet Ms. Kettle.
This utterly depressing, and alas, entirely in keeping with France’s track record. Alas the British and American governments have not been much better in the past, to be fair. For example, I get the distinct impression that the Bush administration has been too soft on the United Nations over the shameful Oil For Food scam, perhaps out of a desire to keep the Russians sweet.
