Congrats to Jeff and the gang at XCOR for being first over the regulatory bar.
I would write more but I am up to my ears in work, so just read the article.

We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people. Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Congratulations to them!
I visited XCOR a couple of years ago. Here are a couple of photos of one of their testbed vehicles in a hangar:

Wild applause from this quarter. Nothing else to say. What else is there? Congratulations to everyone else.
Doesn’t look like they will be good to go on the Wright Brothers’ 100th, which had been touted as a target date. This is a particular disappointment to me, as it would have made a nice birthday present.
The company that might be targetting the anniversary is Scaled Composites, not XCOR.
I have no idea of the state of play of SC’s submissions. I know of a bit of behind the scenes things that went on; I presume they have prepared one.
At the current flight test rate I’d not think they could go suborbital in 4 weeks though. We might see them do a drop test and light the engine.
Or they might surprise me. Like I’ve said before, I’d not mind a surprise Christmas present.
