We are developing the social individualist meta-context for the future. From the very serious to the extremely frivolous... lets see what is on the mind of the Samizdata people.

XCOR on the telly

In case anyone was watching, a couple of our inimitable readers were to be seen on “Future Flight” earlier tonight. The show, on ITV Channel 5, spent fifteen minutes out of an hour program showing the EZRocket in flight and on the ground. Jeff Greason showed up as a talking head, as did Aleta Jackson. I think I saw Dave Jones also but I’m uncertain. Maybe he’ll confirm to us if he was in camera range.

Erratum: Doug Jones. Sorry Doug! Insufficient caffeine. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

  • Dave Jones is my brother… but if that program is the one I’m thinking of, I’m the gray-haired guy running the teacart engine in front of a black backdrop.

    Namedropper 😉

Doug, my excuse is that I worked with an Aussie named Dave Jones for several years in Pittsburgh (not to mention growing up with the singing of that most famous of all Dave(y) Jones!

Does Aleta ever drop in on Samizdata? I’ve not talked to her since the Worldcon in Glasgow. There are some old photos of her from the Pittsburgh ISDC up on my web site btw, in case she doesn’t know.

I missed the beginning of this show, much to my regret, but I caught the end of it, and they featured a truly amazing contraption which they were calling “Helios”, or something similar.

It looked like an April Fool prank. It consisted of a huge wing which flopped and flapped, with engines scattered along its enormous, flexible length. It’s solar powered, and will in due course stay in the air for ever (because of not having to refuel), flying at about 25mph, spying and doing telecommunications stuff.

I know the point of this post was to tell Doug and the rest of them Hurrah! You were on the telly! But this extraordinary object really caught my attention.

I so sorely miss ITN world news and the lovely Daljit Daliwal (who demonstartes that there’s nothing so sexy as intellegence) on PBS here in the US.
