Who Are We?The Samizdata people are a bunch of sinister and heavily armed globalist illuminati who seek to infect the entire world with the values of personal liberty and several property. Amongst our many crimes is a sense of humour and the intermittent use of British spelling. We are also a varied group made up of social individualists, classical liberals, whigs, libertarians, extropians, futurists, ‘Porcupines’, Karl Popper fetishists, recovering neo-conservatives, crazed Ayn Rand worshipers, over-caffeinated Virginia Postrel devotees, witty Frédéric Bastiat wannabes, cypherpunks, minarchists, kritarchists and wild-eyed anarcho-capitalists from Britain, North America, Australia and Europe. Terrible news.
Very sad… This hasn’t been a great year as far as the space industry is concerned… lets hope good news keeps coming from the X-prize side of things.
Absolutely tragic, both on a human scale and humanity’s scale.
I hesitate to post this, for fear of seeming an opportunist, but a quick flip over to the BBC news website reveals only one headline even mentioning Brazil:
“Brazil mourns UN envoy killed in Iraq”
My commiserations for all those who have perished, and whose families have suffered this loss as a consequence of the outward looking quest for humanity’s destiny.
My undiluted contempt for those at the BBC whose worldview is so miserably and introspectively constrained.
Well, you can’t politicise a rocket accident, so the Beeb doesn’t show any interest.
I don’t mean to take anything away from the Brazilians who gave their lives attempting to reach the pinnacle of man’s technological development…
But I have to point out the media’s screwed up priorities. George Bush tips over on a Segway, and it’s news for three days. If it bleeds (and it makes the U.S. look bad) it leads…
” you can’t politicise a rocket accident, so the Beeb doesn’t show any interest.”
bulls***t, utter bulls**t. It’s regrettable (and surprising) that the BBC didn’t report this, but in terms of relatively neutral world reporting, they do a sh*t load better than most other people. Travel to parts of the world where information is scarce, talk to people about where they managed to get some of the truth, more often than not it’s the BBC world service. It’s trusted across the world more than any other news outlet I can think of for it’s relative neutrality.
Show me one reasonable alternative to the BBC as a worldwide reporting organisation that is widely trusted…. go on.
