One in the eye for the BBC The crew of the Royal Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier Ark Royal have complained so bitterly about the BBC coverage of the war that the captain has removed the news channel BBC 24 from the selection available on board. Ark Royal is one of the few RN ships that receives TV channels directly via satellite.
And just to add insult to injury… the captain has replaced BBC 24 with arch rival SkyNews. Ouch!

But what happens when they get home? Will the TV Detector Van be dockside ready to write a L1000 ticket for posession of a TV set? Or do the RN have BBC tags for each of the ships?
The BBC is covering the war? You could have fooled me. I abandoned BBC World (satellite) for Sky because Sly stays on the case, whether or not you like its tabloid style.
BBC World, operating in its subdued studio lighting with subdued but earnest staff, seemed to regard the war as a kind of soft Op-Ed feature. Still, Tim Sebastian’s cruel and relentless HardTalk is the most satisfying interview programme
anywhere.

I imagine the commisars at New Labour are not that bothered. The BBC has been very hostile to the prime minister and co. particularly immediately before the war, whereas Sky News treated them quite respectfully. I think the commisars of the left of Old Labour won’t be too pleased with anti-BBC stuff since it is one of their allies.
I think the BBC has really shot themselves in the foot this time, I think that they have made it significantly less likely the license fee will be continued with the next time it is reviewed (in 2004 or 2006 I think).
